Wet separation for explosive, flamable dusts
Industrial wet separators for Explosive, Flammable dusts. Safe by design, capable of 24/7 operation, with around 35% lower energy use through demand-matched air volume.
Some dust is best captured in water
Aluminium dust, magnesium grinding dust, titanium particles, moist aerosols from mixing these materials destroy conventional dry filter media. They clog cartridges within hours, create glowing nests in filter chambers, trigger fires and explosions, or pass straight through when the particles are too moist to capture dry.
Wet separators remove filter media from the equation. Particles are bound in liquid water at the point of contact. There is no filter cake to clog, no spark risk from dry accumulated dust, no media replacement cycle, and no explosive dust accumulation in the chamber. Separation is continuous, safe, and physically simple.
The NAF Wet Separator, built under licence from ULMATEC GmbH and manufactured in India, is the only wet separator with air volume regulation, with approximately 85% of water-contacting parts in SS 304/316L to enhance machine life.
Wet separation for demanding dust
For explosive, reactive, dry materials, a wet separator is the technically and safely viable approach, and it delivers measurable operational advantages.
Explosion-safe by physics
Wet separation eliminates combustible dust accumulation in the chamber, the primary cause of dust explosions because particles are bound in liquid the moment they enter. No dry accumulation, no glowing nests, no spark-on-media risk. ATEX-certified configurations are available for the most demanding explosive dust classifications.
24/7 operation, dust removed without stopping
The NAF Wet Separator is designed for continuous operation: dust is removed from the sludge circuit during operation, without shutting the system down. No planned stops for filter change-outs, no production interruption for media replacement.
Around 35% energy savings
Optimised mixer technology delivers over 40% improvement in separation performance. Air volume regulation, unique to the ULMATEC design, matches fan output to actual demand instead of running at constant full load. The combined result is approximately 35% lower energy cost.
How It Works
Key advantages
The only wet separator with air volume regulation
Fan output matched to actual demand instead of fixed full load, for consistent separation efficiency and lower energy use.
Approximately 85% stainless steel water-contact surfaces
Stainless steel (304) on all water-contacting parts for corrosion resistance, long service life, and hygienic operation.
Optimised mixer technology
Over 40% improvement in separation efficiency more particles captured per unit of water and air, with lower sludge volumes for disposal.
WaterSafe Pro upgrade
A specialist sludge filtration unit that cuts water disposal cost by over 80%, saves up to 40,000 litres of water a year, and reduces cleaning effort by over 6 hours a week. Retrofittable to any wet separator, manufacturer-independent.
ATEX certified
Full ATEX-compliant configurations for explosive dust zones, Ex-rated motors, ATEX components, corrosion-protected construction, and complete ATEX documentation.
Range of sizes
German engineering, Indian cost
The NAF Wet Separator is built under a licence partnership with ULMATEC GmbH and manufactured in India.
ULMATEC’s wet separator technology rests on measurable engineering specifics: the only wet separator with air volume regulation; 85% stainless steel water-contacting construction; optimised mixer technology delivering over 40% separation efficiency improvement; and the WaterSafe Pro water recovery system that removes up to 80% of water disposal cost. These are engineered design features with quantified operational benefits. NAF delivers that engineering to Indian facilities at a locally competitive price, with local manufacturing and service, and supplies the complete water-handling circuit including sludge cart, return pump, filter fleece, BigBag discharge as a single solution.

Frequently asked questions
When is a wet separator the right choice over a dry filter?
How is the collected sludge handled?
What is the WaterSafe Pro, and is it included?
WaterSafe Pro is a specialist sludge filtration upgrade that cuts water disposal cost by over 80% and saves up to 40,000 litres a year. It is an option, retrofittable to any wet separator.
Are ATEX-certified wet separators available for explosive dust?
Yes. Full ATEX-compliant configurations are available with Ex-rated motors, ATEX components, corrosion-protected construction, and complete documentation.
Can wet separators be retrofitted or connected to an existing extraction system?
Yes. The WaterSafe Pro upgrade is manufacturer-independent and retrofittable, and systems can connect to existing extraction.
Can wet separators be retrofitted or connected to an existing extraction system?
Yes. Through the modular design, the wet separator can be integrated into existing pipework, connected to existing capture points (arms, hoods, machine connections), or used as an additional stage in a multi-stage extraction system alongside existing dry filters.
