Mist Collectors
Oil mist separation for CNC and machine tools. AFS electrostatic separators capture oil and emulsion mist at the source before it coats machineries, deposits on electronics, or disperses into the hall. Single-machine units to central systems for full production lines.
Mist Collectors that Shine!
Contaminated air passes through a six-stage purification sequence. The first five stages form a pre-separation train – mechanical separators that strip oil mist, coolant aerosols, and particulate from the airstream progressively, reducing the load on downstream filter stages.
At the centre of this train is a long-life baffle plate separator, proprietary to the system design and maintenance-free in service: no filter media to replace, no scheduled service interval for that stage. At the sixth and final stage, a HEPA H13 filter captures 99.95% of residual aerosols remaining in the airstream, measured at the most-penetrating particle size of 0.3 μm.
The Long-Life Separator
The Long-Life separator is the core of the mechanical AFS air purification units. It is self-cleaning, maintenance-free, and offers very high separation efficiency. A refined airflow design removes almost all particles larger than 2.0 µm from the airflow. Independent studies confirm the separation efficiency of the AFS Long-Life separator.
Capture at the machine, before the mist reaches you
Cooling lubricant at CNC machining speeds does not stay as liquid. High rotational speeds and cutting pressures break coolant into fine aerosols ” droplets from 0.1 to 10 µm” that settle on internal machine surfaces and enter the hall when the enclosure opens.
Machine components and surfaces
Oil and emulsion film accumulates on guides, clamping devices, viewing windows, spindles, and control electronics. Without capture at source, cleaning becomes part of every shift and deposits shorten the service life of mechanical components and sensitive parts.
Airborne exposure in the hall
Mist released when the machine door opens disperses into the hall air and the breathing zone. At machining concentrations, coolant aerosols carry metalworking fluid additives at respirable particle sizes, within the exposure limits set under India's Factories Act and the TRGS 611 benchmark for water-miscible cooling lubricants.
Workpiece and process quality
In precision grinding, EDM, and high-accuracy milling, oil film on the workpiece or measuring optics causes surface defects and dimensional error. Capturing mist at the machine keeps the working area clean for the full production shift.

Key advantages
Post-filtration: HEPA and metal mesh box
A HEPA filter stage and metal mesh box are available as post-filtration options across all units, for applications where secondary filtration is required after the main mechanical separation stage.
Sound-insulated housing, below 72 dB
An insulated housing option is available on all units, reducing operating noise to below 72 dB - for installations adjacent to workstations or in noise-sensitive areas of the production floor.
Machine-mounted and central systems, same platform
Compact units mount directly on or beside individual machines. Central units connect multiple machines via ducting into one system.
German engineering, for Indian Factories
NAF mist collectors built in collaboration with AFS Germany.
Various filters and separators are ideally adapted to the respective application scenario in a 6-stage purification process. All aerosols and particles are almost completely separated in a 5-stage pre-separation process. The
centrepiece is our proprietary long-life baffle plate separator, which is maintenance-free. A HEPA H13 class high-efficiency particulate air filter is installed at the final filter stage as a secondary filter, filtering 99.95% of all
remaining residual aerosols from the air.

Frequently asked questions
When does a mist collector become necessary at a machine tool?
What is the difference between oil mist and emulsion mist?
How is the unit installed?

How is maintenance carried out and how often?
Cleaning frequency is determined by mist load and coolant type and is set during commissioning. All filters are self draining and are cleaned once in 4 weeks. Replacement filter elements and spare parts are available through NAF’s India-based service team.
